The method of wiring a telephone block

Wiring telephone equipment calls for following a standard that is accepted by all telephone installers and repairmen. The technician must be familiar with the color codes for different type telephone cables and wires. The ability for testing and connecting future circuits is affected by the quality of the job the first technician performs. While electrical codes are not as strict for low voltage and communications circuits, there is an attempt by technicians to install them uniformly.

Instructions
1
Put on the safety glasses. Remove the outer insulation from the cable using the cable strippers. Carefully separate the pairs according to the color code of the wiring being used without untwisting them from their corresponding mate and do not strip the insulation off the pairs.

2
Select the neutral or "tip" of the first pair which will be placed first and the "ring" or battery which will be placed second. Keep all pairs identified in a common manner no matter what term you use to refer to the pairs two leads (IE ground/battery neutral/hot tip/ring).

3
Place the first wire in the first pin on the top right of the block by letting it squeeze between the two metal pins from the top. While holding the wire with one hand, push the punch tool on top of the wire until it seats firmly and cuts off the end. Do the same thing to its color coded mate on the pin below.

4
Repeat the process by stepping down to the next pin and continue following the color code and placing the wires in the same manner until all the pairs of wires are terminated. Check that all terminations are firm and properly color coded.

5
Prepare the cable that is being connected to the feeder in the same manner. Place the "tip" of the first pair between the pins adjacent to the first pins on the block. Place the "ring" on the second pins and continue down the block until all pairs are properly terminated.

6
Place bridging clips over the last pins across to the pins on the other side of the block, if using a split block and more connecting points are needed. Check that all extra wires are terminated properly so they may be easily used for future expansion of telephone and computer networks.
