Frigidaire does not install a power cord on their dryers when the dryer leaves the factory. This is because, depending on the building codes in effect at the time of the construction of your home, the dryer may require either a three-prong or a four-prong power cord. The difference between the two cords is the method used to ground the appliance. Three-prong cords do not have a dedicated ground; rather, the appliance is grounded using the neutral wire. Most building codes now require a dedicated ground, resulting in a fourth wire and prong. If you are moving from an older home to a new one and bringing your dryer, you will more than likely need to remove the three-prong power cord and install a four-wire power cord.
Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet.
Remove the screw securing the terminal block cover, then remove the cover. The terminal block cover is located on lower-left portion of the rear panel.
Remove the three screws on the terminal block, securing the power cable wires to the terminals. Place the screws in a safe location.
Remove the green grounding screw, located on the bottom-left corner of the terminal block. Remove the grounding strap and discard.
Loosen the screws securing the strain relief and pull the power cord out of the terminal block.
Insert the new power cord through the strain relief and into the terminal block. Ensure that the wires can easily reach the terminals and then tighten the strain relief to hold the cord in place.
Connect the green or bare power cord wire to the grounding screw, then screw the grounding screw into the terminal block.
Insert a screw into the ring connector on the white power cord wire. Secure the screw to the center terminal on the terminal block.
Insert a screw into the ring connector on the black power cord wire. Secure the screw to the left terminal on the terminal block.
Insert a screw into the ring connector on the black power cord wire. Secure the screw to the right terminal on the terminal block.
Replace the terminal block cover and secure it using the screw you removed.
