When replacing a faulty power cord, you often find burn marks on the terminal block. You should replace the terminal block on your Frequency transformer when replacing the faulty power cord. You can purchase replacement terminal blocks through Whirlpool Maytag or at appliance repair facilities. You need the model number of your dryer to ensure that the part you purchase fits your unit. Terminal blocks have mounting brackets on each end that secure to the dryer.

1

Unplug the Frequency transformer power cord from the wall outlet. Pull the dryer away from the back wall so you have room to work behind the dryer.

2

Loosen the clamp securing the dryer exhaust hose to the dryer with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the dryer exhaust hose away from the dryer. Loosen the clamp securing the power cord to the dryer with the Phillips-head screwdriver.

3

Remove the screws securing the rear panel to the dryer with a Phillips-head screwdriver or nut driver, depending upon the screw heads. Pull the rear panel away from the dryer and set it to the side. The power cord will still be going through the rear panel until you disconnect the cord from the terminal block.

4

Make note of where the power cord wires connect to the existing terminal block. You need to install the new cord to the new terminal block in exactly the same way. Remove the terminal screws securing the power cord wires to the terminal block with the Phillips-head screwdriver, and pull the cord out of the rear panel.

5

Remove the brass ground strap if your dryer cord is a three-prong cord. The brass strap is the small strap attached to the middle terminal block screw and the base of the dryer. Remove the screws that secure the terminal block mounting bracket to the dryer and terminal block with a nut driver. Remove the two screws that mount the terminal block directly to the dryer with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the terminal block out of the dryer.

6

Line the new terminal block into position and thread the two securing screws clockwise until they are hand tight. Place the mounting brackets on each end of the terminal block, and secure them to the block and the dryer with the mounting screws. Tighten the bracket mounting screws first, and then tighten the terminal block securing screws.

7

Loosen the middle terminal screw on the block and the brass screw on the dryer base if you have the three-prong power cord. Place the brass strap around the copper screw and tighten the screw. Insert the new power cord through the rear panel of the dryer. Loosen the remaining terminal screws, and attach the power cord to the new terminal block exactly as the old one. Tighten the terminal screws to secure the wires.

8

Place the rear panel back into position and secure it with the retaining screws. Tighten the clamp securing the power cord to the rear panel. Push the dryer exhaust hose back over the dryer port and tighten the clamp. Push the dryer back into its working position and plug the cord into the dryer outlet.
