Distribution terminal block

Car audio and electronic systems often require power and ground hubs to centralize the high-amperage 12 volt feeds. Generally made of gold-plated brass, these low-resistance distribution terminal blocks are designed to take one larger incoming power or ground line, and separate it into smaller-gauge, multiple taps. These then lead to the amplifiers or other devices in the system. Electrically safe and cosmetically appealing, these distribution terminal blocks are easy to place in line during an installation.

1
Remove the under-hood system fuse, or flip the disconnect breaker to it's "OFF" position. Either should be located within 18 inches of the battery.

2
Locate a suitable position for placing the block. This should be as near the amplifiers as possible. Unsnap the plastic covering, exposing the set screws.

3
Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the incoming power or ground wire. Loosen the larger set screw on the distribution terminal block, using the appropriate screwdriver.

4
Insert the bare wire from the incoming power or ground wire into the larger terminal on the block. Tighten the set screw back down, ensuring solid engagement with the wire. Give a slight tug on the wire to ensure the fit is secure.

5
Cut the satellite wires leading to the individual devices or amplifiers, using the wire cutters. Again, make these runs as short as the installation allows.

6
Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each end of the cut satellite wires. Use the appropriate screwdriver to secure the device end of the wires to the power or ground terminals on the devices.

7
Loosen the set screws on the smaller satellite terminals on the distribution terminal block. Insert the block-end of the wires into these terminals.

8
Tighten the satellite terminal set screws fully using the appropriate screwdriver. Apply a slight tug to make sure the connections are sound.

9
Snap the fuses (if applicable) of appropriate value into the cupped terminals. Select the fuse value based on the internal fuse value on the amplifier. This can be located in the instruction manual of the device if in doubt.

10
Snap the plastic covering over the metal distribution terminal block to deter possible shorts from occurring
